Wish List

Introduction

There are a number of features we would like to add to DataSplash. Here is a short (but not comprehensive) list.

Since the list of possible features grows faster than we can implement them, we are not promising that any specific feature will show up anytime soon (or in fact, ever!). However, we are very interested in hearing your ideas about which features would be useful to you. If you have suggestions about how we should prioritize the features below, or if you would like to suggest a new one, please send mail to datasplash@cs. berkeley.edu.

Standard Features

The following occur in other packages, but we haven't implemented them yet.

• import (flat file input)
• export (VRML, gif)
• undo
• snap to grid
• grouping
• cut/copy/paste (we currently have duplicate within overlays)
• more drawing primitives (e.g., arcs)
• bitmaps
• easier text fields (ones you can type in directly)

New Features

The following are unique to DataSplash (or they would have some unique property when implemented in DataSplash).

• arbitrary-shaped portals
• reuse of visualizations (mapping from attributes in one table to attributes in another)
• bookmarks
• hyper-duplicate (an easier way to make bar charts)
• context widget (something like a virtual desktop manager to help orient you in the canvas)
• user-extensible drawing primitives
